Frequently Asked Questions
What days do you run the surf tours?
All our surf tours operate daily. You can book any of our surf tours or lessons and leave any day of the week. The only days we do not operate are Christmas Day and New Years Day.
So if you want a 10 day tour leaving tomorrow – you can. If you want a private lesson next Tuesday – you can.
How many people are on the surf tours?
We have a maximum number of 14 on most of our tours which may go up a little in our peak season(October – April), but so will the number of Surf Coaches and it may go down to 2 or 3 in our off season (May – September)
Our instructor to customer ratio on our group surf tours is no more than 1:7 and often less. Our instructors will see you will receive personalized coaching to teach you what you need for the ability you are at.
Is the water cold?
Our water temperature ranges from around 13 degrees in July/ August to around 22 degrees in February/ March. We have wetsuits ranging from 3/2mm to 3mmsealed to4/3mm sealed and boots can also be used in winter.
Are there any sharks?
Victoria has the best record in terms of shark attacks and sightings. They generally hang around food sources like the seals and penguins on Phillip Island and around the Bass Straight where bigger fish will be. During your lessons, you will be in waist-deep water and in very safe beaches where even seeing a shark would be highly unlikely. Victoria has not had a death from a shark attack since 1956 which was on the Mornington Peninsula. You are more likely to die from a bee sting or from crossing the road!
What is included in the surf tours?
We have all the inclusions listed on the pages of the tours so you can see clearly what is included on each surf tour.
What is the accommodation like?
ur accommodation is a privately owned cabin in a holiday park – you will be able to use the facilities in the park including the swimming pool and spa, tennis courts, BBQs and jumping pillow!
We have self-contained facilities so you can prepare your own meals if you wish. The cabin is complete with a shower and toilet facilities as well as 2 rooms sleeping 4 in one and 2 in the other. We try and split males and females but it may be shared at times.
Private accommodation upgrades can be requested but can be difficult to book in peak times. Please talk to us about your needs if you wish to organize private accommodation or if your group size exceeds the total as we can also source alternative arrangements.
How many days should I do before I can surf by myself?
Everyone is different in terms of increasing their skill level but as well as your surfing skills the most important area is to be confident to know where to surf and where not to surf – what to look for under different conditions and at different beaches. Our 4 or 5 day surf tours will not only give you experience at a number of beaches but will also give you progressive surf lessons each day. At the end of your time with us we will guide you to where to go from here to see you know how to improve and surf safely where ever you go.
